Leather Working Group (LWG) is a not-for-profit global standards organization, representing a quarter of the world’s finished leather production, with audited sites in 55 countries. We actively encourage dialogue among our diverse global community of 1,500 members representing the breadth of the leather supply chain, from meat processors to retail.
LWG is committed to promoting the positive aspects of leather and our impact is felt across all elements of the leather value chain including environmental auditing, traceability, social responsibility, animal welfare, chemical management, deforestation, and the environmental impact of leather production.
With our internationally renowned ESG certification, LWG is the overarching standard for leather manufacturing, providing members with accurate metrics and data-driven insights, as well as enhanced supply chain transparency.
Our members are encouraged to shape the future of sustainable leather production through active participation in the organisation. Members also have access to an online resource hub featuring scientific sustainability content as well as access to support on public promotion of commitments to responsible leather sourcing.
2021 has seen the launch of significant projects including the development of the world’s single largest LCA and the world’s largest leather supply chain mapping project in collaboration with NGO and academic partners.
LWG endeavours to provide greater collaboration across all sectors on behalf of and in the best interests of our brands and members and encourages communication with consumers to positively change the narrative together for leather.
