Ahead of the new SATC spin off, Sarah Jessica Parker talks shoes and of “becoming intoxicated by the smell of the fresh leather.”

If you’re of a certain age, the ritual of buying a good pair of leather shoes at the start of every school year is something that you will remember well. Those shoes would be cleaned every weekend, scuff marks carefully repaired and the finish polished back to a shine.

There’s something nostalgic about the practice and one that we should be looking to return to as we look to consume less and make the products that we invest in last longer. But it’s not just practical, just the smell of leather is enough to transport some back to that childhood experience.

It is of course well known that a scent can invoke powerful memories and in a recent interview Sarah Jessica Parker spoke about not just her love of shoes but her Manolo Blahnik collection, (no spoilers on the number of pairs here) and how, when going to shoe stores as a child she loved the smell of the leather and would delight in just sniffing the shoes.
